The Patch package contains a program for modifying or creating files by applying a “patch” file typically created by the diff program.

6.54.1. Installation of Patch

Apply a patch to prevent the test suite from running a test that requires ed:

patch -Np1 -i ../patch-2.6.1-test_fix-1.patch

Prepare Patch for compilation:

./configure --prefix=/usr

Compile the package:

make

To test the results, issue:

make check

Install the package:

make install

patch

Modifies files according to a patch file. A patch file is normally a difference listing created with the diff program. By applying these differences to the original files, patch creates the patched versions.
