The Patch package contains a program for modifying or creating files by applying a “patch” file typically created by the diff program.

6.50.1. Installation of Patch

Apply a patch that fixes a bug whereby patch fails to apply patches whose lines contain trailing carriage return characters:

patch -Np1 -i ../patch-2.5.9-fixes-1.patch

Prepare Patch for compilation:

./configure --prefix=/usr

Compile the package:

make

This package does not come with a test suite.

Install the package:

make install

Modifies files according to a patch file. A patch file is normally a difference listing created with the diff program. By applying these differences to the original files, patch creates the patched versions.
