Installation of Xorg Server
If you are enabling glamor, apply the recommended patch by running
the following command:
patch -Np1 -i ../xorg-server-1.16.0-upstream_glamor_fix-1.patch
If you have downloaded the optional patch, apply it by running the
following command:
patch -Np1 -i ../xorg-server-1.16.0-add_prime_support-1.patch
Install the server by running the following commands:
sed -i "/scrnintstr/i #include <xorg-server.h>" exa/exa.h glamor/glamor.h &&
./configure $XORG_CONFIG \
--with-xkb-output=/var/lib/xkb \
--enable-dmx \
--enable-glamor \
--enable-install-setuid \
--enable-suid-wrapper &&
make
To test the results, issue: make
check.
Now as the root
user:
make install &&
mkdir -pv /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d &&
cat >> /etc/sysconfig/createfiles << "EOF"
/tmp/.ICE-unix dir 1777 root root
/tmp/.X11-unix dir 1777 root root
EOF
Command Explanations
sed -i ...: This sed
fixes two header files that are broken with Glibc 2.20 so the
drivers using them wouldn't fail to build.
--enable-dmx
: Build DMX
(Distributed Multihead X) server.
--enable-glamor
: Build the
Glamor DIX (Device Independent X) module which is currently
required for Southern Islands and Sea Islands radeon video
chipsets, optional for some other radeons, and also optional for
the intel driver.
--enable-install-setuid
:
The Xorg binary must run as the root user. This switch ensures that
the binary is installed setuid when make is run by an unprivileged
user.
--enable-suid-wrapper
:
Build suid-root wrapper for legacy driver support on rootless
xserver systems.
cat >>
/etc/sysconfig/createfiles...: This command creates
the /tmp/.ICE-unix
and /tmp/.X11-unix
directories at startup, and
ensures that the permissions and ownership are correct as required
by the server.
