The GNOME System Monitor package contains GNOME's replacement for gtop.
This package is known to build and work properly using an LFS-7.6 systemd platform.

Install GNOME System Monitor by running the following commands:
./configure --prefix=/usr \ --enable-systemd \ --disable-static && make
This package does not come with a test suite.
Now, as the root
user:
make install
--enable-systemd
: This
switch ensures that systemd is
being used for managing system processes.
--disable-static
: This
switch prevents installation of static versions of the libraries.
