Installation of aRts
Install aRts by running the
following commands:
./configure --prefix=$KDE_PREFIX --disable-debug \
--disable-dependency-tracking &&
make
This package does not come with a test suite that works with
GCC-4.0.3.
Now, as the root user:
make install
Command Explanations
--prefix=$KDE_PREFIX: This
option tells the process to install the package in $KDE_PREFIX. aRts
is installed here as it's required before installing KDE.
--disable-debug: This option
causes the package to be compiled without debugging code.
--disable-dependency-tracking:
This option speeds up one time builds.

artsd

is a daemon that provides access to the sound hardware

provides an interim solution that allows most of legacy
sound applications to run unchanged.

is a simple utility to send raw audio data to the sound
server.

is a graphical utility for performing a number of tasks
related to the sound server.

is a utility to assist developers using the aRts C API.

mcopidl
|
is the Interface Definition Language (IDL) file compiler
for MCOP, the Multimedia Communication Protocol used by
aRts.

contains functions that support aRts programs.
