I recently compiled pre23 with javascript, X, graphics on Ubuntu606.
As I remember, I could not get ssl to work, but I may be mistaken.
Have you tried it?

Till now I have been using 2.1pre20, which comes compiled with
javascript, ssl, jpeg, X and graphics on Ubuntu. I have not noticed
problems with javascript. Which website gives you the problem?

Do you mean 2.2 or 2.1pre22? No idea. All I can see in the archives
is 2.0 and a lot of 2.1pre- versions.
