grep your kernel config file:

grep TMPFS config-3.8.1-i686 - or whatever your config file is called

CONFIG_DEVTMPFS=y
CONFIG_DEVTMPFS_MOUNT=y
CONFIG_TMPFS=y
CONFIG_TMPFS_POSIX_ACL=y
CONFIG_TMPFS_XATTR=y

should have something like the above
