[ 57.535681] wlan0: direct probe to AP 00:1a:2b:65:ac:b4 (try 1)
[ 57.538485] wlan0: direct probe responded
[ 57.538491] wlan0: authenticate with AP 00:1a:2b:65:ac:b4 (try 1)
[ 57.543274] wlan0: authenticated
[ 57.543305] wlan0: associate with AP 00:1a:2b:65:ac:b4 (try 1)
[ 57.545960] wlan0: RX AssocResp from 00:1a:2b:65:ac:b4 (capab=0x411 status=0
[ 57.545965] wlan0: associated
[ 57.546342] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): wlan0: link becomes ready

If iwconfig doesn't see wlan0 it suggests to me that wlan0 does not
exist. Did you compile support for your chipset into the kernel? What
chipset do you have? lspci will tell you. Then you should recompile your
Does your wifi card need any firmware? If it's asking udev for firmware
and not getting it it should complain in the syslog
grep -i firmware /var/log/sys.log
dmesg may tell you something useful too.
Wireless-Tools will get you an unencrypted connection, to use something
more secure you will need wpa_supplicant
