As root:
chown -v lfs $LFS/sources
su - lfs
cd $LFS/sources

The sources should be in $LFS/sources.

Go back and carefully check that you understood and did all the 
instructions in Chapter 4.  It will be very helpful for you to 
understand why each command is there.
