Well, you don't have the full binutils installed.  It can't find the 
assembler, as.

/usr/bin/as -V
GNU assembler version 2.16.1 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) using BFD version 2.16.1

binutils is not installed properly, or the PATH is wrong.

gawk is found but make a symlink to awk.
