Hi i have trouble installing Grub, this is what i have done:

./configure --prefix=/usr
got the error: C compiler cannot create executables
Read in the mailing lists about that i can't use Grub-0.97 for 64 bit.
http://www.mail-archive.com/lfs-dev@linuxfromscratch.org/msg13789.html

so then i tried to install grub2 as suggested. and i followed the hint.
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/hints/downloads/files/grub2.txt

1) made a file under /boot/grub/device.map as Bruce
(hd0) /dev/sda

2) grub-install --grub-setup=/bin/true /dev/sda
3) grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

then i checked it, and this is what it looked like.
============== grub.cfg begin ========================
root:/boot/grub# cat grub.cfg
#
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE
#
# It is automatically generated by /usr/sbin/grub-mkconfig using templates
# from /etc/grub.d and settings from /etc/default/grub
#

### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/00_header ###
set default=0
set timeout=5
### END /etc/grub.d/00_header ###

### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/10_linux ###
### END /etc/grub.d/10_linux ###

### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober ###
### END /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober ###

### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/40_custom ###
# This file provides an easy way to add custom menu entries. Simply type the
# menu entries you want to add after this comment. Be careful not to change
# the 'exec tail' line above.
### END /etc/grub.d/40_custom ###

4) i reverted to a snapshot before i made the configs and did step 1-2
5) modified line 64 of /etc/grub.d/10_linux to add /boot/linux* to the list of filenames
   searched.

and i still get nothing when i do the grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

anyone got an idea of what the problem is?
can i use grub 0.97 or do i have to use grub2?
is there any posibility to use LILO instead of grub2?

Thank you //Daniel
