LFS Book 5.5.1 Installation of gcc

I agree the book does seem a bit ambiguous. I haven't build 6.4 myself 
yet but I think that you are
meant to unpack gcc and cd into in and then unpack mpfr and gmp into the 
gcc source directory. Then you can create the build directory etc

> checking for suffix of object files... configure: error: cannot compute 
> suffix of object files: cannot compile

You may find that doing the above corrects this.
