GCC-4.3.2 Pass2 /bin/sh: build/genmodes: No such file or directory

Hi,

During the second pass through GCC-4.3.2 (please see specific
background notes at end of post) I received the following error:

build/genmodes -h > tmp-modes.h
/bin/sh: build/genmodes: No such file or directory
make[2]: *** [s-modes-h] Error 127
make[2]: Leaving directory `/mnt/lfs/sources/gcc-build/gcc'
make[1]: *** [all-gcc] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/mnt/lfs/sources/gcc-build'
make: *** [all] Error 2

I hope I have given enough output since what came before seemed
unrelated. The configure went OK (nothing obviously wrong in the
config.log) except for the following message:

*** This configuration is not supported in the following subdirectories:
target-libada gnattools target-libgfortran target-libffi target-zlib
target-libjava zlib target-libobjc target-boehm-gc
(Any other directories should still work fine.)

Also on page 66 there was the following line:

Before starting to build GCC, remember to unset any environment
variables that override the default optimization flags.

My output for the env command is (should I have unset the LC_ALL variable?):

TERM=xterm
Ps1=\u:\w\$
LC_ALL=POSIX
LFS=/mnt/lfs
PATH=/tools/bin:/bin:/usr/bin
PWD=/mnt/lfs/sources/gcc-build
SHLVL=1
HOME=/home/lfs
_=/usr/bin/env
OLDPWD=/mnt/lfs/sources/gcc-4.3.2

Finally, my specific background info:
Book: LFS 6.4 , page 67
Section: GCC-4.3.2 Pass2
Host: Ubuntu 8.04.2 server (uname -a --> Linux 2.6.24-23-server #1 SMP
i686 GNU/Linux)

Thanks very much in advance for any help.
