GCC build error (missing separator)

There is absolutely no good reason why @SET_MAKE@ is not getting
substituted. _Something_ will get substituted by configure; I can see
the macro where it's done. The only way I can think of is that the
subconfigure in the gcc directory actually failed and there is an
earlier error. Can you please post the log of the failure?
