If you are doing the sanity checks after building GCC in 6.12 I
applaud you for taking extra effort to make sure you final tool chain
is working properly.

Her are my results after my final GCC build:

cc dummy.c -v -Wl,--verbose &> dummy.log
grep -o '/usr/lib.*/crt[1in].*succeeded' dummy.log

    /usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.1.2/../../../crt1.o succeeded
    /usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.1.2/../../../crti.o succeeded
    /usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.1.2/../../../crtn.o succeeded

If you do it before the final GCC build, the output will be:
(I always keep my tools around)

/tools/bin/cc dummy.c -v -Wl,--verbose &> dummy.log
grep -o '/usr/lib.*/crt[1in].*succeeded' dummy.log

    /usr/lib/crt1.o succeeded
    /usr/lib/crti.o succeeded
    /usr/lib/crtn.o succeeded

Hope this helps in your troubleshooting endeavor.

Sincerely,

William
