Do you mean that on the host (Ubuntu), there aren't /dev/pts and
/dev/shm directories? That would be a big problem. I think what you
might be missing is that you need to run the command from Ch. 6.2.2
first: mount --bind /dev $LFS/dev first. This will bind mount your
host's /dev filesystem, which should have /dev/pts and /dev/shm. Then
you can mount onto those directories.
