DefaultGcc2i386Opt seems to me an option in one of the config files,
probably host.def(?).  That's got to be set to some sane value, like
maybe `-O2 -fno-strength-reduce'; chances are it's accidentaly
commented out right now; should be something like:
#define DefaultGcc2i386Opt      -O2 -fno-strength-reduce

gcc version shouldn't matter.
