Good call. When `make oldconfig' is done, you can do `diff -u
.config.old .config' and see what changed. All that will happen is
that it will remove things that aren't supported anymore and add the
new defaults for that version.

And, yes, linux-2.6.16.x is required because is needed by
the version of udev in the book.
