Problem mounting Windows. iso-8859-1 not found. SUCCESS!

Thank you.  Your instructions worked.  I assumed everything would
automatically be built as both cp437 and iso8859-1 came up as defaults
when I chose VFAT.

However, I could only get this working if I built them as modules. 
Compiling them into the kernel didn't work.  Should that be?
