Entering Chroot Environment Shell Dies

LFS v6.0. Completed everything through Ch. 6.2 without any apparent
errors. Sanity checks OK.
[Requesting program interpreter: tools/lib/ld-linux.so.2].
Problem starts when I enter chroot environment. I get the
"I have no name!" prompt but as soon as I enter any command the shell
seems to die. No more prompt. I can enter commands but there is no
response. No way to exit other than closing the session window.
