Installation of Binutils

You don't have to be in any special directory, I thought. Isn't that 
part of the beauty of Linux that you can execute commands and
scripts from anywhere?
Like, pwd returns /lfs , and you could very well run 
./lfs/binutils/configure.sh and have it work just fine (assuming you build
it in another directory). As well for make or install too, right?
