Glibc crosscompiling

Hello,

When compiling glibc-20041220 (in chapter 5.7 of the LFS-6.0 testing book)
on an AMD XP 2400+ for a generic i386 machine i get the following error msg:

<snip>
/mnt/lfs/sources/glibc-build/config.h:3:3: #error "glibc cannot be compiled
without optimization"
make[2]: *** [/mnt/lfs/sources/glibc-build/tcb-offsets.h] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/mnt/lfs/sources/glibc-20041220/csu'
<snip>

I have set the following env. var's:
CHOST=i386-pc-linux-gnu
CFLAGS=-march=i386
CXXFLAGS=-march=i386

My configure line from within the glibc-build dir.:
../glibc-20041220/configure --host="$CHOST" --target="$CHOST" \
--prefix=/tools \
--disable-profile --enable-add-ons \
--enable-kernel=2.6.0 --with-binutils=/tools/bin \
--without-gd --without-cvs --with-headers=/tools/include \
--disable-selinux

Configuring works ok, but after the 'make' command i get the above error.

Does anyone have a hint so the compiling gets executed?

tia,
Menno
