gunzip -c not working correctly?

the man page states that -c sends the output to standard output. 
Standard Output is to the terminal (screen). you dont want to do this. 
If you want to gunzip the file just gunzip file.gz. You should have 
google'd standard output if you ran into problems like you did. "ask 
yourself why"
