/dev/pts numbering

If this machine is running a 2.6 kernel, this is expected behavior. The 
2.6 kernel now makes no particular effort to supply pts numbers in any 
organized manner, it just uses an available number that it can find 
quickly, and its search algorithm is no longer linear.
