Failure during important glibc make check

Hello,

I got a problem while building up an LFS 5.1.1. After entering the chroot
environment, the make check of glibc failed with the following error:

/sources/glibc-build/catgets/de.msg:4688: invalid character: message ignored
/sources/glibc-build/catgets/de.msg:4695: invalid character: message ignored
/sources/glibc-build/catgets/de.msg:4698: invalid character: message ignored
make[2]: *** [/sources/glibc-build/catgets/de/libc.cat] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/sources/glibc-2.3.3-lfs-5.1/catgets'
make[1]: *** [catgets/tests] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/sources/glibc-2.3.3-lfs-5.1'
make: *** [check] Error 2

there were much more of those "message ignored" messages.

I think, I can't continue while glibc isn't working correctly, right?

Does anybody know what caused this failure?

I followed every step in the 5.1.1 Book, except that I used /toolchain
instead of /tools (alterated specs-patch for gcc to use that directory)
and kernel 2.6.7 instead of 2.4.x.

What caused that failure?

Thankx in advance

Hendrik Wiese
