Try being a little less cryptic in future ... anyways, the following should 
appear in the /etc/rc.d/init.d/mountfs script:

echo "Remounting root file system in read-write mode..."
                mount -n -o remount,rw /
                evaluate_retval

Were there any messages at boot-up that this failed?
