Problem with kernel build

I'm currently working on another computer, so I haven't checked the inodes,
but should the disk space on the host system matter? I'm running the
compiler within the chroot'd environment on the host system /dev/hdb3 -
/mnt/lfs, so shouldn't the compiler be running within that same
environment/disk??  I'll post the inodes when I get home, if it makes a
difference.
