Glibc-2.3.4 won't compile

I am building LFS-6.0 on a Fedora Core 3 host which is running on an
AtlonXP machine

In Chaper 6, when I try to make glibc-2.3.4-20040701, I get the
following error:

/bin/sh: BEGIN { subdirs = ""; inhibit = "" }; \\
/^#/ { next }; /^[^-]/ { subdirs = subdirs " " $0 }; \\
/^-/ { inhibit = inhibit " " substr($0, 2) }; \\
END { printf "sysdep-subdirs =%s\n", subdirs; \\
printf "sysdep-inhibit-subdirs =%s\n", inhibit; \\
print "sysd-dirs-done = t" }: No such file or directory

make[1]: *** [/glibc-build/sysd-dirs] Error 127
make: *** [all] Error 2

I have added line returns to make the error message a little more
readable. I have serached the FAQs and the lfs-mailinglist and not
found the answer.
Can someone tell me how to get past this point? Thank you.
