Try to add --disable-nls flag. I've hit this problem once, and I
couldn't figure out why. But then, after making sure that I do everything
according to the book, this problem went away. For that I had to redo
chapter 5 more than five times :) But as temporary fix, the
--disable-nls flag may help.
