Glibc compile error ("[/sources/glibc-build/libc_pic.a] Error 137")

Hi NG,

I've been trying to build my LFS system by doing everything just as the
book tells me to. For this purpose, I booted Knoppix 3.3 (with Linux
2.4.22, GCC 3.3.2, Glibc 2.3.2) as host system.
Everything went fine so far until it came to compile Glibc the first time
in Chapter 5.

Each attempt to compile Glibc according to the book results in the
following output:

a - misc/quotactl.os
a - misc/sysinfo.os
a - misc/uselib.os
a - socket/accept.os
a - socket/bind.os
[... A lot more .os files are listed here ...]
a - login/updwtmpx.os
a - login/getutmpx.os
a - login/getutmp.os
a - elf/dl-open.os
a - elf/dl-close.os
a - elf/dl-iteratephdr.os
a - elf/dl-addr.os
a - elf/dl-profstub.os
a - elf/dl-libc.os
a - elf/dl-sym.os
a - elf/dl-tsd.os
a - elf/unwind-dw2-fde-glibc.os
a - elf/framestate.os
make[2]: *** [/sources/glibc-build/libc_pic.a] Error 137
make[2]: Leaving directory `/mnt/lfs/sources/glibc-2.3.2/elf'
make[1]: *** [elf/subdir_lib] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/mnt/lfs/sources/glibc-2.3.2'
make: *** [all] Error 2
--- END OUTPUT ---

As I am rather unexperienced in compiling a whole linux system, I don't
really know what to do with this compile error. :-/

Thanks in advance for any help.
