This is turning into a BLFS question more and more each eMail,
so....sorry!

I tried all I could to get the normal network script to work, but no
luck. The closest I could get, was to try dhcp. Then i get a least a
ip number, and it "ifup"'s the card. But still does not work.

Dhclient's output...

Nov 11 21:32:39 p1514xx73 dhclient: Listening on
LPF/eth0/00:40:63:c8:34:e0
Nov 11 21:32:39 p1514xx73 dhclient: Sending on
LPF/eth0/00:40:63:c8:34:e0
Nov 11 21:32:39 p1514xx73 dhclient: Sending on Socket/fallback
Nov 11 21:32:40 p1514xx73 dhclient: DHCPREQUEST on eth0 to
255.255.255.255 port 67
Nov 11 21:32:40 p1514xx73 dhclient: DHCPACK from 217.160.204.251
Nov 11 21:32:40 p1514xx73 dhclient: bound to 217.160.204.108 -- renewal
in 79274 seconds.

And then after this, I did a "ifconfig 2>&1 | tee /ifconfig-out", and I
get nice results...

rescue:/mnt/2# cat ifconfig-out
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:40:63:C8:34:E0
          inet addr:217.160.204.108 Bcast:217.160.204.108

          Interrupt:23 Base address:0xe000

lo Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0

          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
          RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)

Just for reference, is is the ifconfig output on the WORKING system
/rescue system:

rescue:/mnt/2# ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:40:63:C8:34:E0
          inet addr:217.160.204.108 Bcast:217.160.204.108

UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:807 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:638 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
          RX bytes:62264 (60.8 KiB) TX bytes:105041 (102.5 KiB)
          Interrupt:23 Base address:0xe000

lo Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
          RX packets:4 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:4 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
          RX bytes:488 (488.0 b) TX bytes:488 (488.0 b)

SO, it seems that it is working in this case. At least eth0 is up, and
has an IP, and the settings look the same as in the host. SSH starts
ok, or at least no error messages in /var/log/*. BUT, still a
problem...

I could not ping and I could not SSH into the box. The pings just timed
out. So, what else can I check? This p.i.t.a. network card just does
not want to start! I tried also, right after the network script, to
have it ping 216.171.238.83 (lfs server), and captured this to file.
All I get is this...

ping: sendto: Network is unreachable
ping: sendto: Network is unreachable
ping: sendto: Network is unreachable
ping: sendto: Network is unreachable
ping: sendto: Network is unreachable
ping: sendto: Network is unreachable
ping: sendto: Network is unreachable

So, *sigh*. Something just does not work right on it. Any ideas?
Thanks for any help.
