Nope.  You can format your host, as long as you can boot into LFS without any
difficulty, you don't need your host anymore.  Bear in mind, you may want to
wait until you are very comfortable with the state of your LFS system (X,
browser, software, etc.)  The host is handy to have around for fixing stuff.

If your original ? about LILO was not answered in previous posts, try this:

dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hdxy bs=1K count=1

then run lilo again from inside chroot
