kernel panic

following lfs-book 4.0 i get a kernel panic on boot (using a dell 
inspiron 8100):
the last 4 line are:

VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem) readonly
Freeing unused kernel memory: 132K freed
auto: auto: No such file or directory
Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init!

well, i dont know if anyone can help me we that information provided
but it would be appreciated :)
