First, please don't top post and please set your mailer to wrap at 72
characters.

Printenv and env do the same thing so you can save some typing. :) Also,
I hope you meant to type CC=gcc -s not cc=gcc -s. I'll assume for now
that you meant CC. It's listed in the book. If you typed it (which I
can't see why your distro would be forcing it at login) then you should
re-read that section of the book (and any other which you you may have
skipped over or forgotten). As for the original error, which for people
who don't know is:

gcc -shared -static-libgcc -Wl,-O1
-Wl,-dynamic-linker=/lib/ld-linux.so.2 -B/usr/src/LFS/glibc-build/csu/

And the setup is RH-7.2 on an ALPHA using LFS-4.0 with no optimizations
(except exporting -s to gcc) and texinfo-4.1 (in chapter5) instead of
4.2.

I have no idea about Alpha systems, and quite frankly grazed over the
fact in your previous posts. I'll put it in the subject line so Alpha
users might more easily see it.

If I am missing any pertinant details or have some incorrect, please
correct them. I'm just going by your previous posts. :)

The prestige of government has undoubtedly been lowered considerably by
the Prohibition law. For nothing is more destructive of respect for the
government and the law of the land than passing laws which cannot be
enforced. It is an open secret that the dangerous increase of crime in
this country is closely connected with this.
