atx power off doesnt work

Enable the following:

- ACPI
-     ACPI Bus Manager
-         System
-         Processor

and if you have a laptop,

- Embedded Controller
-     Control Method Battery
-     Thermal

Disable everything in APM.

That'll work, as long as your computer is new enough to support ACPI, 
which most PII's onwards do.
