This can also be caused by using the wrong root= in lilo.conf, if the
partition you list, doesn't exist you'll get tha familiar
"Kernel panic: unable to mount root partition"
However if it does exist, is formated, but, just isn't the actual root
partition, you'll end up with the No init found error.

Check to be sure you have the proper partition named as root= in
lilo.conf
