Problem on bootup

I get the following error during bootup:

/etc/rc.d/rc3.d/S20network which exited with a retval of 7

I ran ifconfig and netstat -nr and here is the output:

/proc/net/route: No such file or directory
INET (IPv4) not configured in this system.

Any help would be appreciated.
