When you compile the kernel, you have to include the proper driver for your
network card. If you're not sure what type your card is, do:
# cat /proc/pci
(It's more difficult if you have an ISA card.)
Then "make clean; make menuconfig" in the linux source directory, and add
the driver to the kernel.
