Need help understanding locales

You may want to start reading the Glibc info pages. Run:
	info libc

(yes 'libc' not 'glibc')

Scroll down a bit until the cursor is on the line saying:
	* Locales::

Hit the Enter key and start reading. It should give you a clearer idea how
it all works. It's a bit technical so if you don't understand something,
please don't hestitate to ask for clarification.
