It's not a directory!!

It's not a dir it's a file! But bash keeps telling me that it can't make /usr/bin/env  the new root. now i'm fairly curtain that it is only supposed to be using $LFS as root, am i right? but then it must only be a matter of syntax for the /usr/bin/env, in that case, i would like to know what it is for so that i can correct it. i am following LFS book ver 3.2-rc2.
