Compile LFS for i386? Problem with Cyrix

Ok, I'm intrigued. Could someone describe the "uname hack" so that I can 
attempt the same thing? I apparently have been doing things the hard way 
trying to ferret out how to force 386 on each package -- one - by - one 
-- which  has been a general pain.
