How to tell if package installation is succeeding?

sevral ways really
you could just wait to see if the last line says error
if it does that's ushaly a indacation that it didn't compleate
also you could type $? and hit enter on the line JUST after it fineshes
if it returns 0 it went fine if not it didn't

So much stuff flies across the screen during compilation, it's
difficult to know if it has succeeded or failed after is stops.  Is
there a way to spot errors right away?
