gawk not being found

Pardon the Linux newbieness.
It appears that I have the awk symlink and it points to mawk.
Nothing seems to happen when I run /usr/bin/awk.
Also, nothing seems to happen when I run /usr/bin/mawk.

I assume you mean to run these while chrooted.
