mkdir $LFS/usr/src/lfs
cp lfs-packages-3.0.tar $LFS/usr/src/lfs
cd $LFS/usr/src/lfs
tar xvf lfs-packages-3.0.tar
cd 3.0
<insert compiling other stuff here>
bzcat linux-2.4.8.tar.bz2 | tar xv
cd linux
<insert commands from LFS 3.0 here>

That pretty much sums up what I did.
