Yes, when they are collapsed they appear with a little symbol with a 
"plus-sign-in-a-box" next to it (on Windows at least). Similar display 
to what you see in a folder tree in Windows Explorer or in Thunderbird 
itself. Clicking the plus-symbol opens up one level of the quoted text, 
and you can continue deeper if there are multiple levels.
