My Dell servers have Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet chips in them and work 
fine with the kernel's stock tg3 driver. The tg3 driver is well 
maintained by the kernel's network device driver team, as this chip 
appears in a _lot_ of high-end servers and workstations (across many 
different platforms).
