alternative to printf for debugging on hlfs?

well gdb doesnt work for me.

i get this error every time:

Starting program: /bin/xfm
Warning:
Cannot insert breakpoint 1.
Error accessing memory address 0x2b65d3820f: Input/output error.
Cannot insert breakpoint -1.
Temporarily disabling shared library breakpoints:
breakpoint #-1

i tried setting all pax flags off and i still get the same error.
