Not long ago the Linux kernel team made the capabilities module non-optional. 
The reasons were that almost all distributions are already enabling it 
anyway, and so userland applications can depend on it.

The suid-root programs still however need extended filesystem attributes 
module to use the capabilities module.

Just a heads up.
