Ways to stop gcc from doing stuff we don't want

The '--warn-shared-textrel --fatal-warnings' addition gives me errors whenever
mktemp(3) or tmpnam(3) are used. This has resulted in me finding two patches
so far:
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/~robert/new/patches/kdelibs-3.5.9-mkdtemp.diff
and
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/~robert/new/patches/giflib-4.1.6-mkstemp.diff

The kde patch is from kde-svn, giflib's is from openbsd ports.
