You should first and foremost check the configuration options of elinks.
You can make it behave a lot like Lynx, the cat.
Your links are numbered then and is distinguishable.
You can do what you have asked by running squid and have a script which
operate on the web page after it has been received by your box and before
it goes to elinks.
Are you using speakup?
